   Start subscribing good articles and put your website in the signature.
   Build backlinks (but don’t follow any Blackhat SEO advice, the light is not worth the candle).
   Comment meaningfully on blogs about holidays/travel and see if possible to leave your link with them.
   Get reviewed on popular blogs.
   Use social networking to promote it, but don’t expect high conversions.
   Get a PR agency to announce your website (might be a waste of money).

   Research, test and improve your skills every day.

   I have chosen some keyphrases for which i will try to optimize in google.

   So, how do i start?

   a) Search in google the keyphrase and note the top websites in the search results .
   b) Check the PR of these webpages .
   c) Check the number of back links to these websites.

   But to analyse the website .. so that i can know that these websites are better than the others for that particular keyphrase ……… and i will try improving mine .

   Basically, SEO is divided into two main categories, 1. On-page optimization 2. Off-page optimization. I think, It’s better for both of us if you read the wikipedia entry about SEO.

   I’m not an expert on SEO, nor on the travel business, but for about six months I have been promoting my businesses using Viral Marketing. It’s a bit labor-intensive in the early stages, but it’s low- (almost no-) cost, and does bring traffic which helps rankings.

   Search engine optimization (SEO) is such a broad term. It can be quite overwhelming if you try to take the whole of it in a single bite. There are so many facets of search engine optimization, from how search engines work (and they all work a little differently) to how a web page is designed. There are enough elements to worry about that you could spend far more time than you can afford to invest in trying to achieve the SEO you have in mind. However, search engine optimization doesn’t have to be such an onerous task that it can’t be accomplished. Not if you understand what it is and how it works.
   To increase the traffic u need for your website:
   You can:
   Create a web site that contains meta tags, content, graphics, and keywords that help improve your site ranking.
   Use keywords liberally on your site, so long as they are used in the correct context of your site topic and content.
   Include reciprocal links to your site from others as long as those links are legitimate and relevant.
   Encourage web site traffic through many venues, including keyword advertising, reciprocal links, and marketing campaigns.
   Submit your web site to search engines manually, rather than waiting for them to pick up your site in the natural course of cataloging web sites.

   You can’t:
   Trick search engines by embedding hidden keywords in your web site. This is a practice that will very likely get you banned by most search engines.
   Artificially generate links to your site from unrelated sites for the purpose of increasing your ranking based on link analysis. Most search engines have a built-in mechanism that will detect this type of deceptive practice.
   Artificially generate traffic to your web site so that it appears more popular than it is. Again, there are safeguards in place to prevent this from happening, and if you trip those safeguards, you could end up on the banned list for many search engines.
   Force your web site to appear in search engine rankings by submitting the site repeatedly for inclusion in the rankings. A good general rule of thumb is that you should submit your site once and then wait at least six weeks before submitting it again. Submitting it repeatedly
   will, again, only lead to something nasty like being banned from the search engine.
   Expect search engines to automatically rank you at the top of your topic, category, or keyword as soon as the site is picked up. It could take a little time to build the “status” that you need to reach a high search engine ranking. Remember, SEO is a process.

   After a cursory review of SEO metatags for your website: bookitholidays.co.uk, we found:

   1) Your <title> relies heavily on brand recognition of your domain name, which if it is not recognizable as a search query, then replace it with generic descriptive entries stating specifically what kinds of trips, be it by air, sea, or whatever you are offering. And where’s the business locator, i.e., city, state, country which normally follows the last entry in the <title>; and

   2) There is a missing <keywords> metatag which needs to be properly designed and placed on your opening webpage.

   And finally, here’s a helpful definitive tutorial from google.com which clearly defines how metatags are designed and placed:

   Placement of Metatags:

   A ranking or search order does take place with Google
   and Yahoo and it begins with the "Title" metag which
   should consist of no more than 65 characters separated
   by commas. The "Title" should describe in generic
   terms, the goods and services, followed by a location
   from which the resource is located, i.e., city, state.
   The placement of a domain name which is not generic
   within the "Title" is not appropriate, unless your
   domain name is a major recognizable brand name.

   The second metatag is the "Description" which is
   usually 25-30 words to form a complete sentence which
   best describes one’s goods and services.

   And the very last category – "Keywords" are also
   somewhat limited to 15-16 words which can be plural
   and compound in nature. Again, avoid multiple entries
   which could be mistaken as "spamdexed entries" which
   is defined as the loading, and submission of
   repetitive words into a particular metatag category.
   "Spamdexing" when discovered on a webpage and reported
   to Google’s spamreport.com can result in the
   elimination of your website from their search
   directory.
