Free Online SEO Tools
For anyone wanting to do a bit of their own Search Engine
Optimisation, there is an abundance of free online SEO tools
available on the internet. Most of them provide some pretty
impressive statistics and information to help you optimise your
website, analyse search engine positions, research your
competitors, plus much more!
There are two ways these free online SEO tools can be used: (1)
For those who are new to the area of search engine optimisation,
these tools provide excellent insight on how a website is
performing and ranking. They can quickly highlight issues and
trends with their current website and provide a good insight as
to where optimisation work is necessary. (2) For the more
experienced search engine optimisers amongst us, these tools
will act as a complement to the more specialised SEO tools, like
WebPosition Gold or SpyderOpts. They can even be used to
supplement an SEO’s internal knowledge base and experience.
Here is a selection of some choice tools for both the novice and
the experienced search engine optimisers:
Keyword Research Tool
http://www.webmaster-toolkit.com/keyword-research-tool.shtml
This helps to research appropriate words and phrases to include
in your webpage’s body text to aid promotion. It’s simple and to
use and requires the user to enter the sort of word of phrase
you wish to be found under, the tool will then suggest some
additional words and phrases you can think about using. One of
the great things about this tool is that it gives you the option
to select from a range of top search engines, e.g. Google,
Yahoo, MSN, Teoma, etc.
Keyword Analyser Tool
http://www.webmaster-toolkit.com/keyword-analysis-tool.shtml
This tool reads the body of the page you specify and gives a
report on what words are used, and how many times they are used.
This is a valuable tool as most engines will rank your site
depending on your keyword density (which typically ranges
between 3% and 9%).
Search Engine Position Checker Tool
http://www.webmaster-toolkit.com/search-engine-position-checker.s
html This tool checks whether your website appears in the first
fifty results in major search engines for your chosen keyword or
phrase. If the URL is present, it will output what position it
occupies. As an additional feature, the tool also informs you if
any other URLs from your domain appear in the search results.
Link Popularity Tool
http://www.instantposition.com/link_popularity_check.cfm This
tool measures the total number of links or “votes” that a search
engine has found for your website. This is a pretty cool tool
because as well as tabulated data it also produces a nice graph
of the resulting data. One final key element of this tool is its
ability to compare your website to your competitors to help you
with your overall marketing strategy.
Meta Tag Generator
http://www.webmaster-toolkit.com/meta-tag-generator.shtml This
automatically generates a Meta Keyword tag by reading the page
you specify, removing common words from it, and picking the most
used words on the page. Extra weight is given to words in a
heading tag
Search Term Suggestion Tool
http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/
Displays how many times a certain keyword was searched for at
Overture.com. Shows all related searches for the entered
keyword. A good measure to use in determining frequency of
search among related keyword phrases
Search Engine Optimisation Tool
http://www.instantposition.com/seo_doctor.cfm. A very impressive
tool that tests the performance of a web site, by analysing a
page on the important elements of web page creation, such as its
title and content. It then scores the page against given
criteria for the top search engines, followed by some valuable
SEO advice to improve overall ranking. The report produced is
well laid out and easy to follow for anyone doing their own
optimisation. A freebie tool that works better than many costly
SEO tools I know!
The area of online SEO tools is an exciting area of growth as
SEO developers come up with more and more tools to represent
website positions on the internet. No doubt we will be
revisiting this area again….

What is the best way to configure your index page for SEO?
Given that backlinking is very important for Search Engine Optimization and that most backlinks go to the homepage (index page), should I put all my keyword phrases I want to target on my index page? For instance if I had a web site that sold pet supplies and I want people to search for "dog collars", "cat litter" and "dog bowls" how should I best configure my Web site so that people searching for all 3 will have my website come up first in the search engines? Also it seems my index page should be optimized for the word "pet supplies" or "pet supply store" but those search terms are most competitve to place for, so I may be better off optimizing my Web page for less competitive terms like "dog collars" or "cat litter". Should I then optimize my index page for the lesser competitve keywords even though "pet supplies" is the more relevant keyword phrase that describes my business on the index page? In short should I change my title, meta keyword descriptions, and header tags on my index page to reflect "dog collars" rather than "pet supplies"?
Hi there,
The thing a lot of people get confused about is that SEO is not done on a SITE level, it’s done on a PAGE level.
Let me explain. You’re right, most ppl link to your index/homepage. It’s going to almost impossible for you to optimize your homepage, which is just ONE page, for a bunch of different keywords effectively.
Here’s how you should structure your site. Make your homepage your most broad, general themed page. So, it should be talking about pet supplies in general. Optimize your homepage for a more general, more competitive term.
Then you have subpages on your site, one page about dog supplies, one page about cat supplies, or whatever. Then optimize your subpages for the more specific, and less competitive terms.
The reason it’s going to be pretty much impossible to truly optimize your index page for more specific terms like "cat litter" or "dog collars" is because the content on your index page is more general, not specifically about cat litter or dog collars. So your keyword density will not work out. People going to your homepage will be more disappointed that it’s filled with extra info they don’t care about, since they were only looking for cat litter, not dog collars.
Your traffic will be much more qualified (i.e. more targeted and higher converting) if you send them to their respective subpages. Ppl searching for "dog collars" are brought to the dog collars page, rather than the general pet supplies homepage. Remember, each PAGE can be optimized for a specific keyword. Don’t try to optimize your index page for everything.
So no, don’t change your meta, title, header, etc. on your homepage. If you do that, then suddenly your metadata is all about dog collars, when really the content is about pet supplies in general. So all the cat litter people will not be interested, and you lose out on that.
Rather, set up subpages and optimize the subpages for the more specific and less competitive keywords.
Homepage – broader, generic, more competitive keyword w/ highest search volume
Subpage #1 – dog collars
Subpage #2 – cat litter
etc.

SEO Tips: How to Organize your Site for Fast Ranking
In my last keyword building article I wrote about how to select keywords that would generate the highest return with the least amount of work.
I demonstrated how employing advanced search strings and recording Overture data can be used to find keywords with very little competition and high search volumes. My conclusion was that by conducting keyword research in this manner, ranking for keywords becomes easier.
The next step in Keyword Building is learning how to organize a site around a keyword list for fast ranking and best results. The following is my strategy for doing so.
What You’ll Need
- A finalized list of keywords as well as their corresponding search volumes and number of competitors.
- Excel, or some other spreadsheet program.
- An understanding of the site’s industry, and which terms are semantically related.
- Enough SEO knowledge to decide which words from your list are “low competition.”
Low Competition Keywords
“Low competition” is a relative term. To illustrate why, search the term “Marietta, Georgia real estate” in Google. Here are the key numbers:
- 99 inachor and intitle competitors for the term
- 1,300 searches for the term each month
- 330.8 average backlinks for a top 10 result
- 4.2 average page rank of a top 10 result
Now here are some seemingly perplexing numbers regarding the 9th result:
- It has only 8 backlinks
- It also has a PR of 0
Meanwhile the 10th result has…
- 240 backlinks
- PR of 3
This raises the question of why the 10th result doesn’t rank higher than the 9th result, as well as why the 9th result is even on the first page. The answer is two-fold:
- The 9th result is a sub-page optimized singularly for that search term.
- The 9th result’s domain has roughly 1.1 million more backlinks than any other site on the SERP and is a subdomain of Yahoo.com.
For Yahoo, a term with 99 competitors and 1,300 searches every month is very “low competition.” However, because it has optimized a page for the search term, and is well trusted by Google, it easily ranks.
When organizing your keywords, picking out the “low competition” words is an integral part to driving traffic. Devote a page to every word that will easily rank from your list, optimizing the title tag, h1 tag and keyword density.
Remember, just as you look to Yahoo, thinking, “I wish I could rank for a word like that without having to link-build” so too will a site smaller than yours say of your “low competition” keyword pages.
High Competition Keywords
Keywords that will require a link-building strategy before ranking are considered “high competition.” High competition keywords should be broken down into semantically similar groups. Intuition is largely used to separate the keywords, but here are a few universal guidelines:
- Keep the groups under 6 words each.
- Group phrases together with more than one word in common.
- Check to see if two keywords return similar results in Google.
- No group should have only 1 keyword. Maximize the efforts of your link building.
Once the keywords have been semantically split, prepare an optimized title tag containing all of the keywords from that group. Also choose one word from each group which is the most important to get ranking. That term should be what is in the anchor text of your links when you begin a link building campaign.
Overall, this strategy will save you hours of fiddling and tweaking. Remember, SEO is no different than any other business process – it requires a plan. Practice these tips and you will see success.

What is On page optimization in seo?
on-page optimization refers to factors that have an effect on your Web site. These factors are controlled by you or by coding on your page. Examples of on-page optimization include actual HTML code, meta tags, keyword placement and keyword density.

Are Frames an Impediment to your Seo Campaign?
Frames are easier to eliminate than dynamic pages. Google assesses static pages much better than dynamic ones. Frames con fuse spiders, because each frame on a page behaves like a separate page in some ways.Google doesn’t penalize for dynamic generation, but the spider usually backs off from these portions of a site, for fear of generating huge numbers of pages.Google can’t index this page because it can’t read the words. In creating the overall page structure of your site, the question isn’t so much how long your pages should be,but how focused.
The Google spider responds well to the same site qualities that visitors value. When Google’s spider encounters an image on the page, it recognizes the filetype (.jpg or .gif in most cases), but it can’t see the image, interpret it, or recognize any text that might be part of the image. Ideally, these niched keywords are reflected in each page’s title, meta tags, and the text of incoming navigation links. It understands text. Another great rule of thumb: convey your information in text, not graphics. Each separate and topically focused page has its own name and location, so your navigation links act as incoming links to those pages, helping establish them in Google. The golden rule of optimization is this: do unto Google as your visitors would have you do unto them.
Frames are really not as hard as you think, once you get the basics down. The one thing you have to remember when using frames is that you will have to create several different pages just to have one page: this task will help your site to rank better in the search engines. Each frame is it’s own page and the main page is also it’s own page. Then you have the frame page that puts them all together into one page. The frame page is the page that people will come to. The main page and the frames will show up on the frame page as long as you tell them to.
As such, content design is closely associated with page design, which is likewise concerned with layout, the division of content, and the density of keywords per page.Page design is a broader consideration, including the overall look-and-feel of the page on which your content sits.Your content elements consist of the information on the page, all of which, ideally, is textual.Colors, tables, navigation menus, and links — these are all page design elements. It might be strange to think of “content design. Don’t create wild mixtures of incompatible foods.
Optimizing webpages for a better ranking is constantly changing and demands skills and practice as explained in seo services and on the italian language optimization side in promozione sito

How can i improve SEO?
I want to know more about SEO and different ways i could promote the site. I have optimized the site for web design wakefield as a keyword or phrase. But i would like to do some off page SEO. Has anyone got any tips or suggestions software anything?
Thanks in advance for any answers.
On-site SEO advice: Have a bit more text on the home page to boost the keyword density, and use titles on links and alt text for pics to do the same. Off-site SEO: start social bookmarking, networking, Twittering, blogging and using sites for putting up content with links like Hubpages and Squidoo, etc, etc. You can quickly get 40-50 incoming links that way

SEO Writing Involves Writing Keyword
Many entrepreneurs, small and private businesses, and individual affiliates, hire freelance writers for SEO writing (also known as “search engine optimization” writing). SEO writing involves writing keyword-rich articles to rank the client’s website higher in search engines and generate more website traffic. SEO articles are less informative and less entertaining than articles you would write for magazines.
If you want to see examples of SEO articles, browse through any of the online article distribution directories. For more details go to www.search-engine-premiere.com You will notice many of the SEO articles range in length between 500 and 700 words and paragraphs often repeat with selected keywords.
My friend, Peter Callahan, likes to write sports-related material for the Internet. Many writers, like Peter, write material to inform, entertain and educate readers. Some writers understand clients hire them to write web content for web pages (SEO writing) to ensure higher search engine placement. In many cases, these writers still provide quality-written work for SEO.
However, if a client requests the writer to provide keyword-stuffed articles with a certain (keyword) density, then the writer is at the mercy of the client. Crafting keyword-stuffed sentences into a well-written article is hard. Still, both article types – magazine-quality articles and SEO articles – pay the bills. If you become a freelance writer who can swing to one type and then back to the next, then you will receive steady paychecks. The commodity you need will be time.
Here are a few things you should know if you decide to write magazine-quality articles or SEO content for websites:
1. Web content will likely range from 100-1000 words depending on what your client wants.
2. It will either be keyword-enriched or informative. Ask your client what his goals are and what he wants to accomplish with his articles.
3. Topics will range around keywords in most cases.
4. If quantity is worth more than quality to your client, then make sure you protect yourself. Don’t use your name. Use a pen name. There’s nothing worse than to ghostwrite a lot of keyword-stuffed articles aimed at search engines, and then to hit a major book deal and find your client had (accidentally) attached your byline to those non-informative, (almost) meaningless keyword-stuffed articles. For more details go to www.sitemap-makers.com Publishers will frown on this.
5. Topics for web content are wide-ranging.
Writers who write SEO content are in high demand. These writers often have 20+ jobs waiting in line for them at a time because clients will wait on them to do the job right.
SEO writing is an excellent way to break into freelance writing but it will not make you a recognized writer. Most of what you will write will be from the technical angle of search engine optimization.

Linking Techniques for Better SEO
Most search engines, with Google being the most prominent, rely heavily on a site’s popularity with other sites to determine the page ranking that they assign to any given page. While sites that contain no inbound or outbound links can in fact have a decent page rank with Google, the rank will most likely remain very low and the pages will not do very well in the search results without a good linking strategy and keyword density. All pages should have at least one relevant inbound link from a site that has already obtained a page rank to be properly indexed by most of the major search engines.
As an example, before beginning any research into search engine optimization, this researcher designed a sight for a local community foundation. This site is not optimized whatsoever, contains no outbound or inbound links, but has a huge wealth of content. Based solely on the amount of content and the relevancy, the site is currently holding a Google page rank of between 2 and 3 and has around 25 to 35 pages indexed depending on the search engine. These results took nearly 6 months to achieve and had this researcher known about proper SEO techniques during the design phase, he most likely could have shortened that time frame considerably using the strategies researched in this report. After doing the research for this report, this researcher has all intentions of optimizing it with a good linking strategy and improved keyword density to see how the page rank changes.
The key to a good linking strategy is to provide good quality links that users of your site would be interested in following and that are relevant to your site. Subscribing to linking services is a good way of achieving this as long as it is done properly. Some less than honorable companies advertising SEO services on the web are doing nothing more than adding hundreds or thousands of links to a site in order to raise page rank, and while this might cause a temporary raise in page rank, eventually the search engines compile all of these links and realize most are irrelevant which causes a site to be greatly penalized. As quoted from Google’s webmaster tools website “Don’t participate in link schemes designed to increase your site’s ranking or Page Rank. In particular, avoid links to web spammers or “bad neighborhoods” on the web, as your own ranking may be affected adversely by those links”.
There are also several other factors that effect the outcome of a good linking strategy. Link age, link depth, links per page, and location of links are all factors that help Google to determine the popularity of your site. By having inbound links that have been pointing to your site for a long time, Google sees your site as a source that other sites consider valuable enough to keep linking to you. All of your outbound links should be located on the page that you are optimizing for. For example, don’t include outbound links for web hosting related sites on pages that are being optimized for the keyword “Domains.” Although it is acceptable to design a links page containing all of your outbound links, the preferred method for using outbound links is to keep them all on the page being optimized. Using this method, the spiders will see this page as the most important part of the site and will not see the links page as just another attempt to gain popularity. Finally, try to keep the number of identical links to a minimum on each page. Google will penalize a page that has several identical outbound links on the same page.
