SEO Tips: How to Organize your Site for Fast Ranking
In my last keyword building article I wrote about how to select keywords that would generate the highest return with the least amount of work.
I demonstrated how employing advanced search strings and recording Overture data can be used to find keywords with very little competition and high search volumes. My conclusion was that by conducting keyword research in this manner, ranking for keywords becomes easier.
The next step in Keyword Building is learning how to organize a site around a keyword list for fast ranking and best results. The following is my strategy for doing so.
What You’ll Need
- A finalized list of keywords as well as their corresponding search volumes and number of competitors.
- Excel, or some other spreadsheet program.
- An understanding of the site’s industry, and which terms are semantically related.
- Enough SEO knowledge to decide which words from your list are “low competition.”
Low Competition Keywords
“Low competition” is a relative term. To illustrate why, search the term “Marietta, Georgia real estate” in Google. Here are the key numbers:
- 99 inachor and intitle competitors for the term
- 1,300 searches for the term each month
- 330.8 average backlinks for a top 10 result
- 4.2 average page rank of a top 10 result
Now here are some seemingly perplexing numbers regarding the 9th result:
- It has only 8 backlinks
- It also has a PR of 0
Meanwhile the 10th result has…
- 240 backlinks
- PR of 3
This raises the question of why the 10th result doesn’t rank higher than the 9th result, as well as why the 9th result is even on the first page. The answer is two-fold:
- The 9th result is a sub-page optimized singularly for that search term.
- The 9th result’s domain has roughly 1.1 million more backlinks than any other site on the SERP and is a subdomain of Yahoo.com.
For Yahoo, a term with 99 competitors and 1,300 searches every month is very “low competition.” However, because it has optimized a page for the search term, and is well trusted by Google, it easily ranks.
When organizing your keywords, picking out the “low competition” words is an integral part to driving traffic. Devote a page to every word that will easily rank from your list, optimizing the title tag, h1 tag and keyword density.
Remember, just as you look to Yahoo, thinking, “I wish I could rank for a word like that without having to link-build” so too will a site smaller than yours say of your “low competition” keyword pages.
High Competition Keywords
Keywords that will require a link-building strategy before ranking are considered “high competition.” High competition keywords should be broken down into semantically similar groups. Intuition is largely used to separate the keywords, but here are a few universal guidelines:
- Keep the groups under 6 words each.
- Group phrases together with more than one word in common.
- Check to see if two keywords return similar results in Google.
- No group should have only 1 keyword. Maximize the efforts of your link building.
Once the keywords have been semantically split, prepare an optimized title tag containing all of the keywords from that group. Also choose one word from each group which is the most important to get ranking. That term should be what is in the anchor text of your links when you begin a link building campaign.
Overall, this strategy will save you hours of fiddling and tweaking. Remember, SEO is no different than any other business process – it requires a plan. Practice these tips and you will see success.

Did changing hosting providers affect the SEO effort and rankings of a site?
I gone for a free hosting company and they have suspended my account saying my account quota is over.I am now going for another free hosting provider for 1month and then change over.My question is,will it be a problem if I keep changing hosting providers for the SEO and ranking of my site?
I mean will the on page SEO factors in anyway affect my websites search engine and ranking position?
Also I am seeing website which is now unavailable due to the suspension of my hosting account still ranked at no.7 for google search results.
Will my website disappear from search engines during google’s next crawl?
If the interruption of service is not so long, it may not effect your SEO. But I would say a downtime of longer than 1 day may somewhat effect your SEO and pagerank.
If your site is making any money at all, why not invest a little bit on paid hosting? They can be as cheap as $3 a month. Why risk your Google rank…
Look for a cheap host at http://bestcheapwebhosting.org
Good luck.

Free SEO Course – Suggestions?
I’ve recently started my first website and am keen on learning about SEO, but don’t know where to start. I’ve looked on various forum and websites, but they are all rather complex (and make many assumptions).
Can anyone recommend a good free SEO course that can outline the basics and get me started?
Hi,
Seomoz is a good resource, as is search engine land.
Basically SEO is about attaining a ranking in the search engines. One of the ways (emphasis on the ONE), is to generate one way inbound links, which I detail below:
Try to steer clear of back link exchange sites and reciprocal links. These will just take up your time and don’t offer a great deal of value unless you can get a reciprocal link from a high page rank authority site that is.
What you are looking for is one way links, that’s links from one site pointing to your own site. Think of a link as a vote, the more votes you generate the better your chances of rising up the search engines results. It’s not all about the number of links though, generating quality, relevant links is key.
Moving on from this, try to generate this type of link from a site with at least a page rank of two. You can easily tell the page rank of a site by downloading the page rank tool bar, available on most search engines.
Methods:
Try researching your competitors. Use Link diagnosis or Yahoo site explorer. Tyr to generate links from sites pointing to your competitors sites.
Blog posts. Find relevant blogs, read the posts and comments and join in the conversation by adding something interesting, leave your thoughts, offer help, and leave a link pointing to your site with your key words as the anchor text.
Article submission: Write articles on your subject, post to article directories – leaving your link in the resource box.
Free directory submission. Generate a list of free web directories; submit your site for a free link.
Dmoz: Although not as powerful as it once was, submit your site to the open directory project.
Forums. Can be time consuming as you really need to become ‘part of the community’ before being able to generate a link, but well worth the effort.
These are just a few of the ‘free’ methods. Keep doing your research and remember it takes time and consistent effort.
Happy link hunting!

What An Arizona SEO Company Wants You To Know About Search Engine Optimization Services
If you’re approached by an online marketing agency claiming they can get you a Top 10 search engine ranking “overnight”, turn around and run away!
That’s the advice a prominent Arizona SEO Company offers to business owners who are looking to get to the top of the search engine results quickly.
Search on any term in Google and you’re likely to get thousands of web addresses returned to you. And, if you’re like the average surfer, you’ll never click below the Top 10 listings. That’s because nearly 100% of anyone’s search requirements are fully satisfied by web sites appearing on the first of the many search engine result pages (SERPs). If you’re not on the first page, you might as well not be there at all.
The only way to earn and keep a Top 10 rating, other than buying your way to the top by bidding outrageous amounts of money for a laundry list of key words, is to use natural search engine optimization techniques.
Often called “organic search engine optimization”, these natural search engine optimization techniques work because the online marketing agency, or search engine optimization firm, using them creates pages of web content that are specially designed to attract search engine “spiders”.
These pages are optimized with just the right blend of targeted key words, proper HTML tags, and a page/web linking strategy that search engines look for.
Natural search engine optimization is part art and part science and a lot of online marketing experts are getting it wrong. That’s why our contact at a noted Chandler Web Firm recommends that you check out the references that a search engine optimization firm provides before you sign any agreement.
Besides checking references, which can always be faked, ask the online marketing agency for a list of key words that they have achieved Top 10 ratings for. Then search on those terms and see if any of the web sites in the Top 10 match the reference list you were given.
Finally, our Arizona SEO Company friend says that you should beware of any search engine optimization company that cannot provide a couple of local references. After all, how good of a marketing agency can a company be if they claim to be a Scottsdale marketing company and they don’t have any clients in their home town?

SEO Basics – Starting With Search Engine Optimization Basics
SEO basics start with the composition of the words on your pages and what intrinsic value they offer your audience. The first prerequisite of SEO is understanding the basic correlation of content composition and the impact that content has on rankings respecitively.
Relevance is the underlying criteria that search engines reward, if your content is specific, informative and manages to acquire click through traffic, then your pages have the trappings of becoming popular which is a component to acquiring a top 10 ranking.
Aside from the title tag, (the main tag you use to describe the content of the page) and the links that endorse your content through back links (links from other sites)and the copy (which is completely under your control). There are fundamental guidelines you can adhere to that will assist you in keeping your content on topic to elevate topical relevance.
What are Search Engines?
Search engines are a cataloging system that are essentially transparent in their composition. Search engines are expected to glean information and organize data from thousands of unique industries, compile that data and then, based on the fetch command you issue as a result of you entering a boolean query in the search box are then expected to retrieve the most relevant result.
Understanding the premise of how search engines function rather than struggling to adapt and muscle your way up the SERPs (search engine result pages) is far easier instead.
Through appeasing the laws of their construction (the mathematical algorithm, teamed up with it’s ability to gain contextual artificial intelligence like phrase rank algorithm, search engines have the ability interpret the context of your pages.
Your focal point is simply to provide the ideal (relevant) result according to their ranking criteria. Which falls into three categories.
These three measuring sticks search engines use to assess content in addition to semantic synonyms and related phrases are called allinanchor, allintitle and allintext.
Talk about green widgets enough on your page, they know your page is about green widgets (allintext), placing it in the title is also a great way to signal the plane (allintitle) or get enough links from other pages that say your site is about green widgets and even if it is or not, it can potentially rank for that or related phrases (allinanchor).
That in a nutshell is how SEO basics play out according the the search engine spiders (the little programs that scour the web looking for new or exciting information to report back to the index).
The next part of SEO basics will cover how to ensure that your content is spider friendly or how to invite search engine spiders to skim, index and rank your content.
In closing, the gist is (1) make your titles unique (2) keep your writing style focused and use key words (words containing the phrases you want to rank for) as well as develop as many on topic links from other sites to cement your position in the search engine result pages.
Just writing about it on your site is not enough, unless you sites has hundreds of thousands of strong links pointing at in, in which case it can rank on the title tag alone. That is called website authority and is yet another topic we will be covering in the future.
The most relevant search result is the one that makes it to the top 10. There are no secrets involved, just logical relevance, but popularity counts so don’t just write dry content.
The whole exercise of SEO is to get traffic from people. Since people pay the bills and not spiders, make sure you have something worth saying and they will take notice and pass it along.
Otherwise, you are only helping your competition by leaving your guests hungry or thirsty for more topical information about your subject. In which case, they will simply return to the search engine and click the next result in the list. So, the bottom line is user engagement aside from topical relevance and traffic.

I was wondering as what to consider as the basic SEO Guidelines, while creating the website?
Hi,
I am developing a website, and was eager to know what all I should consider for Search Engine Optimization, while developing my website.
Thanks
Keywords are definitely a big deal. The general rule of thumb is that you’ve got to please Google because it’s the biggest search engine in the world, and if Google sneezes, all other websites follow suit.
Each page of your website should have 300-600 words with your keyword sprinkled throughout it 10-15 times. I’ve seen somewhere that 5 times is usually enough, so you might want to start out with five. This allows Google to pick up your keyword and index it.
Secondly, you need find out what kind of competition you might have. Type in a keyword or a keyword phrase in google related to your niche. If you get 2 million search results or less, you’ve got a good keyword phrase for a homepage. 3 million or less, you’ve got a keyword page for other pages in your website. Anything more than 3 million, you’re going to have a hard time getting noticed.
Third, you’ve got to make sure that keyword has enough of a search market. Anything less than 400 searches per month is lousy. You’re not likely to make sales. Go to Wordtracker Free Keyword Tool. Type in your keyword or keyword phrase.
Wordtracker gives daily search counts. So multiply the daily search count by 30. This will give you a monthly count. 400 or more, good deal. Less than 400, look for a different keyword.
