SEO: Looking For Human Edited Directories?
Let me start off by saying that I have searched Google, MSN, Yahoo, Alexa and many other sources. I have found that many directories are either spam or outdated. This leads me to post this message
I am looking for between 30-60 directories that meet these requirements:
#1, Updated as of today.
#2, Search Engine friendly type URL’s.
#3, Rank With Google, MSN and Yahoo.
#4, Not full of spam.
#5, No hidden text or links.
#6, Both paid and free listings.
#7, No recipricol link is needed/asked about.
#8, Category for real estate.
#9, Human Edited would be great.
#10, A timely manner inwhich sites are to be accepted.

I’ll tell you one thing. The best human edited site out there that is free to post to and that has an amazing PR (Google Page Rank) is www.dmoz.com.
Getting a link from one high ranking PR site is better than hundreds of low ranking PR sites.
It may take some time to get listed with Dmoz, but it’s well worth it.

SEO Tips: How to Organize your Site for Fast Ranking
In my last keyword building article I wrote about how to select keywords that would generate the highest return with the least amount of work.
I demonstrated how employing advanced search strings and recording Overture data can be used to find keywords with very little competition and high search volumes. My conclusion was that by conducting keyword research in this manner, ranking for keywords becomes easier.
The next step in Keyword Building is learning how to organize a site around a keyword list for fast ranking and best results. The following is my strategy for doing so.
What You’ll Need
- A finalized list of keywords as well as their corresponding search volumes and number of competitors.
- Excel, or some other spreadsheet program.
- An understanding of the site’s industry, and which terms are semantically related.
- Enough SEO knowledge to decide which words from your list are “low competition.”
Low Competition Keywords
“Low competition” is a relative term. To illustrate why, search the term “Marietta, Georgia real estate” in Google. Here are the key numbers:
- 99 inachor and intitle competitors for the term
- 1,300 searches for the term each month
- 330.8 average backlinks for a top 10 result
- 4.2 average page rank of a top 10 result
Now here are some seemingly perplexing numbers regarding the 9th result:
- It has only 8 backlinks
- It also has a PR of 0
Meanwhile the 10th result has…
- 240 backlinks
- PR of 3
This raises the question of why the 10th result doesn’t rank higher than the 9th result, as well as why the 9th result is even on the first page. The answer is two-fold:
- The 9th result is a sub-page optimized singularly for that search term.
- The 9th result’s domain has roughly 1.1 million more backlinks than any other site on the SERP and is a subdomain of Yahoo.com.
For Yahoo, a term with 99 competitors and 1,300 searches every month is very “low competition.” However, because it has optimized a page for the search term, and is well trusted by Google, it easily ranks.
When organizing your keywords, picking out the “low competition” words is an integral part to driving traffic. Devote a page to every word that will easily rank from your list, optimizing the title tag, h1 tag and keyword density.
Remember, just as you look to Yahoo, thinking, “I wish I could rank for a word like that without having to link-build” so too will a site smaller than yours say of your “low competition” keyword pages.
High Competition Keywords
Keywords that will require a link-building strategy before ranking are considered “high competition.” High competition keywords should be broken down into semantically similar groups. Intuition is largely used to separate the keywords, but here are a few universal guidelines:
- Keep the groups under 6 words each.
- Group phrases together with more than one word in common.
- Check to see if two keywords return similar results in Google.
- No group should have only 1 keyword. Maximize the efforts of your link building.
Once the keywords have been semantically split, prepare an optimized title tag containing all of the keywords from that group. Also choose one word from each group which is the most important to get ranking. That term should be what is in the anchor text of your links when you begin a link building campaign.
Overall, this strategy will save you hours of fiddling and tweaking. Remember, SEO is no different than any other business process – it requires a plan. Practice these tips and you will see success.

There are so many aspects of a web site that can decrease or boost your search engine rankings. Each web site is as unique as DNA and as such, will react differently to different marketing treatments.

If you search Google for a keyword or keyword phrase, you’ll see at the top of the results how many web pages are listed in those results. That is the amount of web sites that are competing with yours to reach top page placement for that keyword or keyword phrase. For example, the keyword phrase “web design” has approximately 303 million web pages listed in the results, whereas if you search for my name in quotations, “courtney heard”, you will see that there are only 508 web pages listed in the results.
It is therefore, much easier to rank well for the keywords “courtney heard” than it is for web design. This is why you must choose keywords wisely. With tools such as wordtracker.com, you can find out approximately how many searches are performed for a given keyword or keyword phrase. The more competitive those keywords are, the higher the cost will be to optimize your web site and the longer the optimization will take.
3. The Size of Your Target Market – If your site is targeting a global market, it will take a lot more effort to reach the top ten search results than if your site is targeting a regional market. It also depends on what sort of market you’re targeting. If your site sells a product that only a small group of people will be interested in purchasing, your site will be optimized easier than if the product or service appealed to the global population. For instance, the keyword phrase “real estate” will require a lot more effort to reach top page placement for than “real estate canada” and even “real estate vancouver”.
4. Competitor Sites’ SEO Campaigns – You might find that once your optimization campaign is under way, your site jumps and slips and jumps and slips several times. This can be due to many things, but the one we’ll look at is your competitors’ sites SEO campaigns. If your competitors are aggressively optimizing their own sites for search engines, they can also be achieving new rankings and displacing your site. This brings us to our 5th and final point…
5. Your Own SEO and Link Development Campaign – Your own link development and SEO campaign should be thorough, covering all the aspects of a well optimized site and utilizing all your resources for obtaining incoming links. If your SEO campaign isn’t approached properly, your competitors can surpass you in the rankings easily. You must be aware of your competition and adjust your efforts accordingly.
6. if it was easy, everybody would be doing it. Getting a company’s name and products, or services, onto the first page of a genuine Google search isn’t a trivial piece of work. In fact, there are four distinct skills that a search engine optimizer needs to possess. Most people possess one or maybe two of these skills, very rarely do people posses all four. In truth, to get to all four, people who are good at two of these need to actively develop the other skills. Now, if you are running your own business, do you really have the time to do this? Is this the best use of your time?
7. Many website designers produce more and more eye-catching designs with animations and clever rollover buttons hoping to entice the people onto their sites. This is the first big mistake; using designs like these will actually decrease your chances of a high Google rating. Yes, that’s right; all that money you have paid for the website design could be wasted because no-one will ever find your site.
8. The reason for this is that before you get people to your site you need to get the spiderbots to like your site. Spiderbots are pieces of software used by the search engine companies to trawl the Internet looking at all the websites, and then having reviewed the sites, they use complex algorithms to rank the sites. Some of the complex techniques used by web designers cannot be trawled by spiderbots. They come to your site, look at the HTML code and exit stage right, without even bothering to rank your site. So, you will not be found on any meaningful search.
9. I am amazed how many times I look at websites and I immediately know they are a waste of money. The trouble is that both the web designers and the company that paid the money really do not want to know this. In fact, I have stopped playing the messenger of bad news (too many shootings!); I now work round the problem. So, optimizing a website to be Google friendly is often a compromise between a visually attractive site and an easy to find site.
As you can see, there are many, many things that make your site unique in the services it requires. Some sites can reach top page placement by just changing a title tag, while others wait 6 months to even be listed on Google. The bottom line is, educate yourself, ask questions, choose the right SEO company and be patient. In time, your top page placement will come.

HELP! Can anyone give me some ideas for articles?
OK, I am a copy writer for a sign company. I have been assigned to write 8 SEO articles a day with key phrases that are about signs. My problem is this, I want to make the articles interesting, so I need some ideas for angles. Most of them have been about the making or designing of a sign. BORING. SEO: Article Directories Dead?
I would have liked to submitted my article to directories that relate to real estate. I first checked google for directories called 1. real estate articles and 2. real estate article directory. Most of the these article directories are terrible. So I them tried search for article directory or article directories. I submitted to the first 50 article directories listed with Google. Only 6 of the 50 have approved of my article. The others have not and just seem dead. I noticed many of the article directories show in their footer the year 2005, 2006 or 2007.
My question is: are article directories dead? Is there really 500-1000 article directories out there that are worth submitting to? If yes, does anyone have an updated list? I’ve tried Google, digitalpoint and other resources.

Submit to any niche directories that have the same theme as the topic of your article because the search engines like inbound links to your own website, linked to in your article’s author’s resource box, from other website of the same genre.
Also submit to the miscellaneous, or multiple category article directory sites (in their most appropriate category for your article’s topic) that have a high Google PR indicated.
While not a fool proof indicator of its authority, Page Rank is a decent barometer for how often its spidered, at least by the Google bot, and a measure of how much human traffic it may get.
