Free SEO Course – Suggestions?

I’ve recently started my first website and am keen on learning about SEO, but don’t know where to start. I’ve looked on various forum and websites, but they are all rather complex (and make many assumptions).

Can anyone recommend a good free SEO course that can outline the basics and get me started?

Hi,

Seomoz is a good resource, as is search engine land.

Basically SEO is about attaining a ranking in the search engines. One of the ways (emphasis on the ONE), is to generate one way inbound links, which I detail below:

Try to steer clear of back link exchange sites and reciprocal links. These will just take up your time and don’t offer a great deal of value unless you can get a reciprocal link from a high page rank authority site that is.

What you are looking for is one way links, that’s links from one site pointing to your own site. Think of a link as a vote, the more votes you generate the better your chances of rising up the search engines results. It’s not all about the number of links though, generating quality, relevant links is key.

Moving on from this, try to generate this type of link from a site with at least a page rank of two. You can easily tell the page rank of a site by downloading the page rank tool bar, available on most search engines.

Methods:

Try researching your competitors. Use Link diagnosis or Yahoo site explorer. Tyr to generate links from sites pointing to your competitors sites.

Blog posts. Find relevant blogs, read the posts and comments and join in the conversation by adding something interesting, leave your thoughts, offer help, and leave a link pointing to your site with your key words as the anchor text.

Article submission: Write articles on your subject, post to article directories – leaving your link in the resource box.

Free directory submission. Generate a list of free web directories; submit your site for a free link.

Dmoz: Although not as powerful as it once was, submit your site to the open directory project.

Forums. Can be time consuming as you really need to become ‘part of the community’ before being able to generate a link, but well worth the effort.

These are just a few of the ‘free’ methods. Keep doing your research and remember it takes time and consistent effort.

Happy link hunting!

7 Things To Look For When Hiring An SEO Firm

You know by now that Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is a technique used by website owners to drive “natural” traffic to their website. You also know that SEO is performed by publishing keyword-rich articles and by playing around with the html code. But do you know that SEO is not as easy as it sounds – it needs an experienced firm to perform SEO, and it needs some time and research to hire such a specialized firm?

But we’ve made the task simpler for you and here is a checklist you must use when it comes to hiring a SEO firm:

Is the firm reputable? The SEO firm you are employing must be on a sound footing and it must stand head-to-head with its peers in the industry. This is not to say that we have anything against small SEO outfits who are just starting out – go with them if you feel they have the credentials and the capacity to do your work, but at your own risk.

Does it have an established client base? If an SEO firm is good, clients will flock to it automatically. So, does your SEO firm have a list of esteemed clients, or is it into SEO for websites who should be confined into the web junkyard? Find that out and go with an SEO firm that has a solid client base.

Does it use black hat techniques? Black hat techniques stand for unethical ways of performing SEO. If an SEO firm has ever spammed, or lifted articles, or created web farms to generate traffic, or used any technology to fool the search engines, then stay away from such a firm. You can find out if a firm is into black hat techniques by looking at their client list and talking to the clients, specially the old clients.

Does it have the right employees? Your SEO firm should not just have technically qualified, experienced employees – it should staff them in adequate numbers too. There’s really no point of going to a well reputed SEO company that has 5 employees and a roster of 200 large clients.

Does it offer all the SEO services? A good, well-established SEO firm will offer all SEO services under one roof – sourcing and submitting articles, programming, directory submissions, blog posting, search engine submission, link building, etc. If your SEO firm offers only a part of such services, ditch it, because you can’t be running around to two or more companies trying to perform SEO on your one and only beloved site.

What about its employees’ skill sets? You can get the best articles published and the best of sites to link to your website, but that won’t do a lick unless your website’s design, layout, navigation is search-engine friendly. The employees at a good SEO firm must be experts in website design, programming, understanding how search engines function, link building, directory submission and web traffic analysis, and these guys must be working in-house – these skills must not be outsourced.

How does the SEO firm respond? Does the firm respond in quickly or do they return calls in a few days. If they take over 24 hours to return your call, don’t even consider them.

Once you have determined that an SEO firm fits your requirement, check to see if their costs will match your budgets and if they have a person on board whom you’ll be comfortable working with. And if everything seems okay, go for them.

Step One – You've Got To Ensure You Have At Least Ten Article Pages On Your Internet Site.

One of the nice things about getting visitors to your website using the search sites is the proven fact that if you know what you're doing you can literally fast track yourself to success and get giant amounts of rankings in your niche market. Step one – you've got to ensure you have at least ten article pages on your website. In this post I wish to show you precisely how to make this occur so that you can get the traffic that you need… The bottom line is that if you would like to get lots of traffic you are likely to want to have article pages. The largest reason for that is as you can only rank your default page for so many keywords at the very same time. 2nd , lose one or two back links pointing to your website, particularly if many of them are coming from a friendless or low raking internet site.

And ultimately, buy only permanent links and do not buy from sites that charge regular charges for their services. Joining in this practice will be futile for you and also your site since Google can simply perceive and penalise you for doing so. Whatever method you use to drive more traffic to your site or raise your PR , do not forget to plan and research each link building step you make. Your job is to learn which keywords and key-phrases are searched the most and create content containing those keywords and phrases. If it is on your internet site, your blog or in your articles, you have got to know your keywords and key word phrases. You made your content observable to the search sites by employing keywords that have relevancy to your internet site.

When folks type in your keywords into the search site your content will come up, and you'll get traffic to your internet site. Learn search engine optimisation : When you learn search engine optimisation you'll end up being one of the few successful social marketers who make cash on line. And even today, that still is still true. There are 1 or 2 publicity release services out there, very like article directory sites that permit you to submit your release and include a connect back to your internet site. Nevertheless a tiny smattering cost nothing, dozens charge less than 20 bucks and others will charge more. Unlike article directory websites, many of those sites aren't free.

Keywords are those terms that folks might use if they are attempting to find something that your website has to give. But just peppering your website with these terms, without any extra info, isn't enough for SEO. As an example, if your business is selling cameras, you would wish to include the word ‘camera’ on our site in as many techniques as practical in terms like ‘buy a camera,’ ‘best cameras,’ ‘camera for sale,’ and so forth. Terms related to your most important term-in this example, words like digital, photography, film, footage and so forth-strengthen the optimisation of your internet site more.

How Can Selecting an SEO Partner?

Every company offering SEO related services promises results but few deliver on that promise. To be the exception when it comes to delivering on that promise a SEO partner must take an approach that ensures quality results that meet YOUR business objectives.

Here’s what to look for:

First, they should demonstrate that they understand your business need.

Just giving you a questionnaire is not enough. At the beginning of any engagement, they should take the time to understand your business objectives. Your business is unique and a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach rarely actually fits every business. By taking the time to understand your business they should be able to tailor their services to best meet your business objectives as well as your budget.

Second, they should use a proven model of optimization that offers ‘realistic’ expectations.

Ignore marketing hype like “Rank #1 in Google in 24 hours” Search engines do not make public the process or rules they use to crawl, rank pages or index website pages. Further the processes and rules change often as the search engines attempt to increase the value of search results. Of course if your keyword phrase is “one of a kind white unicorns hand made by a grandmother in Peoria” then you actually have a good shot of # 1 ranking if anyone actually ever searched for that. Otherwise, it takes time and lots of work to get high rankings.

To compensate for this lack of public information, an SEO partner should rely on a proven model to ‘uncover’ the rules.

1. Analyze – Determine where your pages rank today. From this you can learn what may be ‘right’ about these higher ranking that can be applied to other pages.

2. Target – Every web site is unique. Rather than a set of ‘canned’ optimization recommendations they should determine the right optimization options for your website. To accomplish this they should use a range of methods:
• Expert Review. While many SEO partners have great in-house experience they should also turn to other experts who study search engines to determine the most likely ‘rules’ used to determine how pages are indexed and ranked.
• Best Practices. They should look at the top ranking competitors in your space to determine how they optimized their pages, for more details visit to www.the20seotools.com particularly those aspects that could influence page rankings.
• Learn as they Optimize. They should consider implementing changes to larger sites in stages. Start by optimizing your highest value pages first, then, based on the results modify the optimization approach if needed before continuing.
• It’s More than Google. While organic search results are a key portion of any optimization effort, they should know that it takes much more to get quality traffic to your website. They should be able to help you go beyond the search engines to find your new traffic.

3. Optimize – They should be able to provide the detailed information you need to understand what needs to be done to your website. They should also be willing to let you make the changes rather than forcing you to allow them to make the changes at substantial per hour fees.

4. Analyze – SEO is not a one-time effort. Your business changes, your competitors change, your prospects and customers change and the search engines refine rules. This means you will need to periodically review your ranking and re-optimize your site. You should expect your SEO partner to provide ‘follow-ups’ to ensure that you got results.

Third, their approach should be comprehensive and include all the aspects that bring traffic to your website, not just search engines. Make sure they will provide

• Detailed Site Analysis – You need to understand from where your site is starting.
• Keyword Analysis – All keywords are not created equal. They should help you understand which ones to use, and as importantly, which ones not to use.
• Page Structure Recommendations – Content, headers, keyword placement, it all matters.
• Engine Submissions – Each engine is unique. ‘Submit a link’ programs are not effective.
• Paid Search – The internet is like any business, for more details visit to www.sitemap-makers.com sometimes ‘free’ isn’t worth even that.
• Reciprocal Links – As with keywords, all links are not created equally.

Selecting a SEO partner can be intimidating. With all the marketing hype, it is easy to get fooled. In the end SEO is like any other business service you use. You should be able to understand the benefits, and limitations, it offers and make an informed decision about how to invest your money.

Is it worth paying for someone to submit articles about my website and create links etc?

I have a brand new website (went live last night) and I dont know much about SEO etc. I have seen websites that say they will write an article about you website and submit it to lots of websites and directories plus build links and submit website to SEO link friendly websites… it it worth doing this? Any advice appreciated! Thanks

the first question i will like to ask you is do you know the site owner, who referred you to them, has someone used their service and gave good recommendations,if you can answer this questions,go ahead and do it.but seo is not that add,its just some bougus word.write articles yourself and start summiting to article directories that you can google up and watch the magic you performed.if your articles are good and catchy,i bet people will visit your website through the resource box where you will write little but catchy words about yourself and put your website link.so if they like your article and want to read more from you, they will rush over to your website.

Maybe You Have Not Made Any Yet And Need To Know The Easy Way To Avoid Putting Your Spectators To Sleep?

Ever studied some selling videos and thought to oneself, ‘How boring’ and just turned them off? Have you felt this way about your own videos? Maybe you have not made any yet and need to know the simplest way to avoid putting your spectators to sleep? Well, you have come to the best place. The best way, while not having to go thru any complex gambits, is to keep the video short and right at the top of it, tell your audience this will be passing and thus they have to concentrate or the data might fly right by them. This piece of writing is going to show how to split up the monotony in your videos so that your spectators never get bored of what you have got to say. This may make filming your videos simpler. Most videos sites only permit videos that are about 5 to ten minutes long. Use good outlines and tags for your videos. The most vital part of using videos to generate free traffic to your internet site is consistency.

When tagging and describing your videos, you wish to ensure you include keywords that correctly describe the content. Folks who watch your videos need to believe that you can be trusted and you are in it for the long term. Just let me tell you this, like article promotion and blogging, you won't see an immediate rush of enormous free traffic charging into your site instantly. Even though you stop making videos after that, you may still continue enjoying an amazing amount of FREE traffic from the few months ‘ of making videos for many-many future years. Nevertheless what will occur is, shortly after a few months of posting your videos, you may build substantial equity and trust with your spectators and position yourself as sort of a pro in your field. Plenty of folk forget this step and it is among the keys to successful video marketing.

Another thing folks regularly overlook is the thumbnail. The title and the footage are the first things that spectators look at-they use them to choose if they're going to open the video or not. Make both your title and thumbnail exciting, and suitable, you'll have better clicks. More traffic Now it's time to get rather more views–you can sponsor your video to a related video that's already getting a large amount of perspectives. You take your information regarding what you're actually doing and research your competitors, then find something you are doing, thinking, making, and presenting that's completely different than what they do.

Be aware of what your nearest competition is doing and how I recommend you do this, is to setup Google Alerts in the classes you have got an interest in so that you can see what type of articles they're submitting and what the hot subjects are and how they're being indexed by Google. I recommend that you select 3 to 4 concepts and then put those together into one. Bingo, a completely unique expert concept. Videos are a really hot promoting tool today and should definitely be put in your promoting toolchest, there are many different twists on video selling and the one I'm going to help you to use is one that leans towards the entertainment end of the range. The ones with a person in them are useful in their correct place, but many folks are rather bored of them as they should think and listen.
