Free Online SEO Tools
For anyone wanting to do a bit of their own Search Engine
Optimisation, there is an abundance of free online SEO tools
available on the internet. Most of them provide some pretty
impressive statistics and information to help you optimise your
website, analyse search engine positions, research your
competitors, plus much more!
There are two ways these free online SEO tools can be used: (1)
For those who are new to the area of search engine optimisation,
these tools provide excellent insight on how a website is
performing and ranking. They can quickly highlight issues and
trends with their current website and provide a good insight as
to where optimisation work is necessary. (2) For the more
experienced search engine optimisers amongst us, these tools
will act as a complement to the more specialised SEO tools, like
WebPosition Gold or SpyderOpts. They can even be used to
supplement an SEO’s internal knowledge base and experience.
Here is a selection of some choice tools for both the novice and
the experienced search engine optimisers:
Keyword Research Tool
http://www.webmaster-toolkit.com/keyword-research-tool.shtml
This helps to research appropriate words and phrases to include
in your webpage’s body text to aid promotion. It’s simple and to
use and requires the user to enter the sort of word of phrase
you wish to be found under, the tool will then suggest some
additional words and phrases you can think about using. One of
the great things about this tool is that it gives you the option
to select from a range of top search engines, e.g. Google,
Yahoo, MSN, Teoma, etc.
Keyword Analyser Tool
http://www.webmaster-toolkit.com/keyword-analysis-tool.shtml
This tool reads the body of the page you specify and gives a
report on what words are used, and how many times they are used.
This is a valuable tool as most engines will rank your site
depending on your keyword density (which typically ranges
between 3% and 9%).
Search Engine Position Checker Tool
http://www.webmaster-toolkit.com/search-engine-position-checker.s
html This tool checks whether your website appears in the first
fifty results in major search engines for your chosen keyword or
phrase. If the URL is present, it will output what position it
occupies. As an additional feature, the tool also informs you if
any other URLs from your domain appear in the search results.
Link Popularity Tool
http://www.instantposition.com/link_popularity_check.cfm This
tool measures the total number of links or “votes” that a search
engine has found for your website. This is a pretty cool tool
because as well as tabulated data it also produces a nice graph
of the resulting data. One final key element of this tool is its
ability to compare your website to your competitors to help you
with your overall marketing strategy.
Meta Tag Generator
http://www.webmaster-toolkit.com/meta-tag-generator.shtml This
automatically generates a Meta Keyword tag by reading the page
you specify, removing common words from it, and picking the most
used words on the page. Extra weight is given to words in a
heading tag
Search Term Suggestion Tool
http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/
Displays how many times a certain keyword was searched for at
Overture.com. Shows all related searches for the entered
keyword. A good measure to use in determining frequency of
search among related keyword phrases
Search Engine Optimisation Tool
http://www.instantposition.com/seo_doctor.cfm. A very impressive
tool that tests the performance of a web site, by analysing a
page on the important elements of web page creation, such as its
title and content. It then scores the page against given
criteria for the top search engines, followed by some valuable
SEO advice to improve overall ranking. The report produced is
well laid out and easy to follow for anyone doing their own
optimisation. A freebie tool that works better than many costly
SEO tools I know!

Role of Content in SEO Writing
There has been much talk over the business sector of the web concerning SEO articles. For those new to the jargon of the internet, SEO means search engine optimization. It is an important factor in getting yourself known to the major search engines of the internet. Without the search engines it would be like looking for “a needle in a haystack” for a person to find your website.
Often one of the major mistakes writers make with SEO writing is they concentrate so heavily on the keywords they forget about the content. The whole purpose of SEO content writing is to draw visitors to your site, and most likely take some kind of action once they are there.
Good SEO writing is dependent on many things. Naturally, it must consist of keyword rich SEO articles. From there though the keywords must blend in and flow naturally with the content. Meaning the content must be pertinent to the keywords
A good SEO content writer should have the ability to write intriguing and captivating keyword titles. Then the content should consist of many attributes. It should be interesting and informative. It must be relevant to the keywords used. If it is not, it becomes very confusing and irritating to the reader. Once this happens the reader is not interested in what the article is trying to promote. Too many articles like this on a website can be very detrimental to the objectives of the site.
Website rankings are very dependent on the keywords of the article. It is one of the major factors in getting your SEO rankings up the list. Sometimes SEO content writers will be carried away with the keywords and use them to such an extent that the search engines will spam them.
When an SEO content writer takes on the job of writing an article, they must familiarize themselves with the topic of the article. It is not feasible that an article writer tries to write about something that they do not know anything about. This is where the importance of SEO content comes into play.
The longer an SEO content writer can captivate and hold the attention of the reader, the more professional the writer is. There are some major companies available on the net that offer these types of professional services. A company such as SEO Content Lab is very successful in what they do. They have captured the ability to keep numerous writers on staff that all have specific knowledge and areas of expertise. With these types of resources to draw upon, it is easy to see why they are able to produce articles that are keyword and content rich according to their topic. These SEO articles draw attention from search engines. Just as importantly, they promote the sales of the objectives of the pertinent web sites. They have the ability to write a sales type article that comes across as being informative and interesting. These articles are not just sales messages.

SEO Services: What are They?
SEO services address the inherent mechanism of the world’s most popular online search tool, the search engine. Access to the secrets of a search engine assists companies to improve the search rankings of their websites, helping boost traffic and attract relevant traffic. Quality traffic can significantly improve a company’s conversion rates, fueling sales and profitability. With Internet surfers using search engines as their primary online information source, SEO services can help companies tap into a large portion of their potential market.
SEO Services: What to Include?
Whenever one thinks of SEO services for a website, the only service that comes to mind is researching for keywords that are appropriate for the business. These keywords are the words and phrases used by web surfers to search for a product or service and act as the first step to attracting traffic. However, SEO services encompass much more than simply researching for the appropriate keywords. Whenever an organization hires an SEO company, it can make use of any of the following services to improve rankings on search engines and enhance visibility, popularity, sales and growth:
Site review and modification: These services involve reviewing and refining content, website architecture and backend site coding in order to make every page more compatible with search engines.
RSS Feeds: Search engines such as Google prefer RSS feeds. Creating an RSS feed, with the targeted keyword in the title of the feed, and submitting them to as many RSS aggregators as possible would significantly help improve the rankings of a website.
Blogs: Blogs, especially posted at Blogger, Squidoo and WordPress, are given preference by search engine like Google. Creating blogs, the content of which is focused on target keywords, and posting them on popular blog sites can have a highly favorable impact on the rankings of a website. These blogs can also be converted into RSS feeds and submitted to make the maximum impact.
Incoming links: Incoming links can be created through active forums and Yahoo Answers. Posting keyword-targeted articles on active forums and asking questions on Yahoo Answers, while focusing on target keywords, would significantly boost the popularity of a website. Each article posted in various forums must have a link that can redirect readers to the website.

What is the best way to configure your index page for SEO?
Given that backlinking is very important for Search Engine Optimization and that most backlinks go to the homepage (index page), should I put all my keyword phrases I want to target on my index page? For instance if I had a web site that sold pet supplies and I want people to search for "dog collars", "cat litter" and "dog bowls" how should I best configure my Web site so that people searching for all 3 will have my website come up first in the search engines? Also it seems my index page should be optimized for the word "pet supplies" or "pet supply store" but those search terms are most competitve to place for, so I may be better off optimizing my Web page for less competitive terms like "dog collars" or "cat litter". Should I then optimize my index page for the lesser competitve keywords even though "pet supplies" is the more relevant keyword phrase that describes my business on the index page? In short should I change my title, meta keyword descriptions, and header tags on my index page to reflect "dog collars" rather than "pet supplies"?
Hi there,
The thing a lot of people get confused about is that SEO is not done on a SITE level, it’s done on a PAGE level.
Let me explain. You’re right, most ppl link to your index/homepage. It’s going to almost impossible for you to optimize your homepage, which is just ONE page, for a bunch of different keywords effectively.
Here’s how you should structure your site. Make your homepage your most broad, general themed page. So, it should be talking about pet supplies in general. Optimize your homepage for a more general, more competitive term.
Then you have subpages on your site, one page about dog supplies, one page about cat supplies, or whatever. Then optimize your subpages for the more specific, and less competitive terms.
The reason it’s going to be pretty much impossible to truly optimize your index page for more specific terms like "cat litter" or "dog collars" is because the content on your index page is more general, not specifically about cat litter or dog collars. So your keyword density will not work out. People going to your homepage will be more disappointed that it’s filled with extra info they don’t care about, since they were only looking for cat litter, not dog collars.
Your traffic will be much more qualified (i.e. more targeted and higher converting) if you send them to their respective subpages. Ppl searching for "dog collars" are brought to the dog collars page, rather than the general pet supplies homepage. Remember, each PAGE can be optimized for a specific keyword. Don’t try to optimize your index page for everything.
So no, don’t change your meta, title, header, etc. on your homepage. If you do that, then suddenly your metadata is all about dog collars, when really the content is about pet supplies in general. So all the cat litter people will not be interested, and you lose out on that.
Rather, set up subpages and optimize the subpages for the more specific and less competitive keywords.
Homepage – broader, generic, more competitive keyword w/ highest search volume
Subpage #1 – dog collars
Subpage #2 – cat litter
etc.

What Do You Consider As White Hat SEO?
Im wondering, what’s white hat SEO to be exact? Directory submissions, article submissions, and that’s it? Because paid links obviously aren’t white hat and even 3 ways or 4 ways link exchange aren’t part of white hat SEO either (because they meant to cheat). So what are part of white hat SEO? I heard a lot of getting relevant backlinks, but how to get relevant backlinks in white hat way other than paying for the links or do 3-4 ways link exchange?

SEO Tips: How to Organize your Site for Fast Ranking
In my last keyword building article I wrote about how to select keywords that would generate the highest return with the least amount of work.
I demonstrated how employing advanced search strings and recording Overture data can be used to find keywords with very little competition and high search volumes. My conclusion was that by conducting keyword research in this manner, ranking for keywords becomes easier.
The next step in Keyword Building is learning how to organize a site around a keyword list for fast ranking and best results. The following is my strategy for doing so.
What You’ll Need
- A finalized list of keywords as well as their corresponding search volumes and number of competitors.
- Excel, or some other spreadsheet program.
- An understanding of the site’s industry, and which terms are semantically related.
- Enough SEO knowledge to decide which words from your list are “low competition.”
Low Competition Keywords
“Low competition” is a relative term. To illustrate why, search the term “Marietta, Georgia real estate” in Google. Here are the key numbers:
- 99 inachor and intitle competitors for the term
- 1,300 searches for the term each month
- 330.8 average backlinks for a top 10 result
- 4.2 average page rank of a top 10 result
Now here are some seemingly perplexing numbers regarding the 9th result:
- It has only 8 backlinks
- It also has a PR of 0
Meanwhile the 10th result has…
- 240 backlinks
- PR of 3
This raises the question of why the 10th result doesn’t rank higher than the 9th result, as well as why the 9th result is even on the first page. The answer is two-fold:
- The 9th result is a sub-page optimized singularly for that search term.
- The 9th result’s domain has roughly 1.1 million more backlinks than any other site on the SERP and is a subdomain of Yahoo.com.
For Yahoo, a term with 99 competitors and 1,300 searches every month is very “low competition.” However, because it has optimized a page for the search term, and is well trusted by Google, it easily ranks.
When organizing your keywords, picking out the “low competition” words is an integral part to driving traffic. Devote a page to every word that will easily rank from your list, optimizing the title tag, h1 tag and keyword density.
Remember, just as you look to Yahoo, thinking, “I wish I could rank for a word like that without having to link-build” so too will a site smaller than yours say of your “low competition” keyword pages.
High Competition Keywords
Keywords that will require a link-building strategy before ranking are considered “high competition.” High competition keywords should be broken down into semantically similar groups. Intuition is largely used to separate the keywords, but here are a few universal guidelines:
- Keep the groups under 6 words each.
- Group phrases together with more than one word in common.
- Check to see if two keywords return similar results in Google.
- No group should have only 1 keyword. Maximize the efforts of your link building.
Once the keywords have been semantically split, prepare an optimized title tag containing all of the keywords from that group. Also choose one word from each group which is the most important to get ranking. That term should be what is in the anchor text of your links when you begin a link building campaign.
Overall, this strategy will save you hours of fiddling and tweaking. Remember, SEO is no different than any other business process – it requires a plan. Practice these tips and you will see success.

Hiring a Good SEO Copywriter
Obviously being interested in the services of a good, SEO copywriter may mean that you have some content that you need incorporated into some good keyword rich SEO articles. The hard job may be to find the appropriate writer. Keep in mind there is more to it than the individual being a good writer.
To begin with, if you have an SEO content writer in mind, do not hesitate to ask for a few samples. This way you get to see a style of their writing. More than likely the sample content will not be applicable to your topic, so do not let that sway you from the important factors. Content must pertinent to the article title. A good captivating headline with intriguing content is necessary. It must be able to hold the reader’s attention right to the end. In addition, the SEO copywriter must possess excellent spelling and grammar skills.
You may initially feel more comfortable hiring an experienced SEO content writer. This is fine, especially if you have a flexible budget. Do not dismiss the talents of newcomers to the industry though. Often new SEO copywriters are eager to please. They will spend more time on their research and presentation. They may not be as quick as the experienced writer may but they have much to offer.
If time is an issue with your project then you may very likely want to utilize the services of an experience copywriter. Especially if there is going to be a fair amount of research involved. Well-trained, experienced writers are able to research quickly and extract relevant information.
Often you will find that many experienced SEO content writers that are adept at writing keyword-rich SEO articles have lost their interest in their jobs. What ends up happening is their entire articles end up having the same tone and style. There is no problem with this if you are requiring the writer to complete a few articles. On the other hand, if you have many articles to complete and the subject is the same, then this issue can be a problem. You do not want all of your articles sounding almost identical. This is where the advantage of an inexperienced writer takes the lead. They are still fresh to the concept of writing and will be more willing to put more thought into the articles.
There are both pros and cons to hiring experienced SEO content writers and the novices. The one major skill they must jointly share those is to be able to write keyword-rich SEO articles.
To solve your dilemma of who to choose as a SEO content writer, why not consider a well-known company such as SEO Content Lab? Let their management specialists determine the best SEO copywriter for your particular project. Their streamlined, proficient writing staff consists of writers in many areas of expertise. Combine the knowledge of the writers with the experience of management and you are sure to get excellent services at quality prices from SEO Content Lab.

SEO Basics – Starting With Search Engine Optimization Basics
SEO basics start with the composition of the words on your pages and what intrinsic value they offer your audience. The first prerequisite of SEO is understanding the basic correlation of content composition and the impact that content has on rankings respecitively.
Relevance is the underlying criteria that search engines reward, if your content is specific, informative and manages to acquire click through traffic, then your pages have the trappings of becoming popular which is a component to acquiring a top 10 ranking.
Aside from the title tag, (the main tag you use to describe the content of the page) and the links that endorse your content through back links (links from other sites)and the copy (which is completely under your control). There are fundamental guidelines you can adhere to that will assist you in keeping your content on topic to elevate topical relevance.
What are Search Engines?
Search engines are a cataloging system that are essentially transparent in their composition. Search engines are expected to glean information and organize data from thousands of unique industries, compile that data and then, based on the fetch command you issue as a result of you entering a boolean query in the search box are then expected to retrieve the most relevant result.
Understanding the premise of how search engines function rather than struggling to adapt and muscle your way up the SERPs (search engine result pages) is far easier instead.
Through appeasing the laws of their construction (the mathematical algorithm, teamed up with it’s ability to gain contextual artificial intelligence like phrase rank algorithm, search engines have the ability interpret the context of your pages.
Your focal point is simply to provide the ideal (relevant) result according to their ranking criteria. Which falls into three categories.
These three measuring sticks search engines use to assess content in addition to semantic synonyms and related phrases are called allinanchor, allintitle and allintext.
Talk about green widgets enough on your page, they know your page is about green widgets (allintext), placing it in the title is also a great way to signal the plane (allintitle) or get enough links from other pages that say your site is about green widgets and even if it is or not, it can potentially rank for that or related phrases (allinanchor).
That in a nutshell is how SEO basics play out according the the search engine spiders (the little programs that scour the web looking for new or exciting information to report back to the index).
The next part of SEO basics will cover how to ensure that your content is spider friendly or how to invite search engine spiders to skim, index and rank your content.
In closing, the gist is (1) make your titles unique (2) keep your writing style focused and use key words (words containing the phrases you want to rank for) as well as develop as many on topic links from other sites to cement your position in the search engine result pages.
Just writing about it on your site is not enough, unless you sites has hundreds of thousands of strong links pointing at in, in which case it can rank on the title tag alone. That is called website authority and is yet another topic we will be covering in the future.
The most relevant search result is the one that makes it to the top 10. There are no secrets involved, just logical relevance, but popularity counts so don’t just write dry content.
The whole exercise of SEO is to get traffic from people. Since people pay the bills and not spiders, make sure you have something worth saying and they will take notice and pass it along.
Otherwise, you are only helping your competition by leaving your guests hungry or thirsty for more topical information about your subject. In which case, they will simply return to the search engine and click the next result in the list. So, the bottom line is user engagement aside from topical relevance and traffic.
