Serious SEO Tips/Help?
For those of you who already have your website fully optimized for search engines, or those who know a lot about search engine optimization: Please help me optimize my website.
I’m not a total noob to SEO, I have my website showing up in google, and some of my keywords provide "alright" google page rankings, others dont. However my website is not fully optimized at all.
I need help, tips, tricks, and ideas on how to better optimize my site.
So far I have submitted my website to local business directories, made sure good keywords are abundant through out my site, and manually submitted my website to multiple search engines……….even so I am not getting the desired results in googles search results Etc…..
Help please Thanks,
Mike
Here’s what you can do to start SEO on your site. Remember that this is a long process and will not get you results overnight.
1) Brainstorm and choose keywords that reflect your site. Try to order them in relevancy of content.
2) When writing posts try to use the keywords in the titles. Using 1 to 5 keywords in the body text.
3) Add or optimize title tags, H1 headings, keyword tags (5-10 keywords)
4) Add or optimize Image ALT Tags and make sure any pictures on your site a relevantly titled. You can get a lot of hits through google image searches.
5) Make sure you have regularly updated content.
6) Make sure your content is unique/original/new and focused
7) Make sure you have plenty of internal links in your website.
Make your navigation easy to understand. You best content should be on the front page or not more than one or two clicks away
9) Make a site map
10) Get a fast server and try to slim down HTML, Javascript and flash to decrease loading times. Inline CSS will add to code bloat so try to use a single style sheet.
Links
1) Get quality inbound links. It is better to be linked to by fewer sites that are more popular than a million little sites with no traffic.
2) Post on forums and blogs with links back to your site.
3) Write for other people’s blogs with a link back to your site
4) Get known in your field as an expert which will get you links
5) Use social networks, facebook groups etc.
Layout
1) Is your content easy to read in layout, font and color scheme?
2) Do you have a professional and attractive looking design?
General Considerations
1) Is your site really good enough to be in the top 10 search results for specific keywords? Does your website have something that other sites in your field don’t?
2) Are you passionate about your website and committed to it for the long term?
3) Are you an authority in your field?
4) Do you write with your readers in mind?
5) What in your mind would compel readers to come back to your site again?
Hope that helps for now

SEO Problems and Crawler Indexing Issues?
Hello after being away from here for a while I came back because I am having a possibly major issue with my website and search engine traffic. It seems bots and crawlers are having issues with crawling my website. I have summed up most of it in the quote below.
I apologize for the links as this quote is just a direct copy/paste off of my forum.. I just recently purchased an IPB license a little over a month ago and finally made the move to IPB, but this issue seems to have been going on longer than that.
Quote:
I think something is wrong somewhere or broken that is keeping search engines from being able to properly index the website. We technically should at least be seeing a fair bit more guests on at once even if they don’t register given the age of the site now.
As most we get between 10 – 30 guests on at once, sometimes less, half the time it’s the result of a crawler, crawling the pages..
I posted this poll to see how many found the site via a search engine, and only one person/member found the site via a search engine…
http://www.xtemu.com/forum/?showtopic=763
I would appreciate if someone familiar with SEO can help check if something is wrong somewhere, check meta keywords and descriptions and other general SEO stuff to help me optimize results more efficiently.
Also the web archive wayback machine should typically be showing more archived pages/cached versions of the forum than it currently is. This has led me to believe that something somewhere is breaking search engine crawlers from the ability to properly or efficiently index the pages.
http://web.archive.org/web/*/xtemu.com
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.xtemu.com/forum
The wiki brings up no matches on the wayback machine..
Something is wrong somewhere and given the date of the last cached pages on the wayback machine, might give an idea what could of happened or went wrong.
As you can see one member total came from a search engine on the poll, barely any content for my website is being archived in the web archive wayback machine with five pages total that have been archived. Barely any guests on the site at all, at most we get between 10 and 100 guests, but half or more of guests are made up of crawlers, unknown crawlers so relatively few guests on at a time.
Also whenever a crawler is on the site, it usually sits on the board index not crawling any of the pages or content at all. Also my sitemap generator script is having trouble crawling the site, the end result of a sitemap is unusually small like only a couple hundred kilobytes which is quite small given the amount of content, topics and posts we have.
The pages themselves total about 7MB. So I have came to a conclusion that something is wrong or broken somewhere that is making it difficult or nearly impossible for search engines to properly index the site/forum, which also hurts search engine results for my site. As to what it is that is causing this problem baffles me and I am unable to fix it myself without an idea on what it could be.
Thanks if anyone can help me.
Well, if you type
site:www.xtemu.com
into google, it shows 3,570 results, so it seems everything is ok. I wouldn´t worry about the wayback machine, they generally do not cache everypage on the site and is not used as a benchmark for indexing content.
However, you have no meta descriptions. This is the snippet of text that google shows in its results page. This could be affecting click-through rate, as in the absense of a meta description, google will show a snippet it thinks would be good, which more often than not is not very good. Think of your meta description as an advert for a particular page on your site, it should give the searcher an overview of what the page is about.
Also, your meta page titles are bad, perhaps you should add some keywords to do with your community into the metatitle, and this will get you showing up better in searches for these keywords.
That´s just my opinion after a quick 2 minute look, however I would recommend hiring a specialist if your are very worried.

Organic SEO?
Organic SEO is a term used for natural content that lends itself to ranking well in search listings under a specific subject matter or topic. No tricks, keyword stuffing, or other techniques that are considered unnatural. The idea is that if you provide useful content that is of value to the visitor, the search engines will not only give you good rankings now but in the future too.
People spend a lot of time trying to figure out the latest and greatest trick or method to achieve good search engines rankings. There are some important basics to adhere to but in the long run, it’s pretty simple to get good rankings. Provide unique content of value in the given subject area.
Organic or natural search engine optimization is following the guidelines of the major search engines and providing useful information. So how can you do that when there are already 5 or 6 million other resources that do the same thing?
One way is to do it better, provide a unique twist, and the detail necessary to separate you from the crowd. Some of the one-word popular search terms get up to 2 billion results displayed on a typical search. That’s right my friend, you may have billions of competitors for a popular search term.
Dig down a little deeper, just like most searchers will do eventually, and the competition will thin out. Get down to a very specific aspect of the search query, and two things happen. First, you are in a less competitive area and second, you are better targeting your potential visitor.
You don’t want just any visitor, you want someone is has an interest in your particular area of the base search term or subject. It doesn’t matter if you are trying to sell something, provide information, or promote your opinion to influence others. You should always drill down and be specific in your content to reach your intended audience.
Another important part of Organic SEO is following the known guidelines of the search engines. Naming conventions (page, title, even domain) have an impact on rankings. Creating well-designed layouts for both the reader and the search engine bots (bots are software programs that go out and visit the websites) helps too.
Areas on each web page such as navigation menus and internal links need to be in proper format and easy to find. Descriptive phrases or information about the link should be clear and concise. Providing complementary or associated information gives your reader more options to spend more time on your website.
It’s easy to get lost in the weeds when working with search engine optimization. There are few rules, but many guidelines. Too many times people look for an absolute, when there are none to be found. And always remember that the search engines constantly re-evaluate their ranking methods to both eliminate the cheaters and improve the quality of results.
While I can’t use a picture in this article, I can give you an example that may be helpful in better understanding organic SEO. For our example lets use gardening as the subject matter. In our example the website will sell items that gardeners might be interested in buying. There are lots of subcategories in gardening to choose from, so lets go with house plants. And maybe drill down a little further in this area to succulents (plants that thrive with very little water).
Providing information on any and every aspect of our subject of succulents will provide a lot of content to attract the visitors interested in that type of information. You could have sections on growing, identifying, indigenous, and flowering for starters. Each page would have very specific information on each area, presented in a unique method around house plant applications.
The layout and design should have the page names, titles, and links that use descriptive terms to identify the subject matter. Unique content could be personal experience, recommendations in specific placements, etc. Each web page could display items for sale that apply to that subject matter. Or you could also display affiliate links to other websites that pay you a commission on sales.
So you can see from this example that the information provided is the key to attracting visitors with an interest in the subject matter. Search engines will see that too, and serve up your web page when someone searches for your topics. The goal of the search engines it to provide the best possible results to the query. If your information provides that information, you get listed.
There are many parts to the puzzle in search engine optimization. Organic SEO is just one part but if you do it well, you can get some good results in search engine traffic. Providing valuable and unique information on your website will attract visitors via their queries on the popular search engines.

Search Engine Optimization Basics
Most people put a website up on the internet, put their website address on all their promotional advertising like business cards, flyers, etc. and then sit back and wait while they fantasize about all the money that will soon be rolling their way. The problem is that the money never comes. So what are they missing? The answer is search engine optimization or SEO. You see, your website has to rank high in order for people to be able to find it among the thousands or hundreds of thousands of competitors you may have on the internet. The following basic terms may help you understand the need for and basics of SEO.
What is search engine optimization?
There are certain techniques and tactics that can help your website get higher rankings. Using these methods with that end in mind is known as search optimization or SEO. One of the most important parts of SEO is including high-quality content on your website. Your content or articles should be relevant to your topic, rich in the right keywords and informative to the reader. The search bots crawl your site and then complicated algorithms are used to rank your site.
What are search bots?
Search bots or spiders are computer programs that scan the content of your website and then relay important information about it back to the search engines. They look for consistency between your Meta tags, titles and keywords. They also check your keyword density, sitemap and other website features.
What is an algorithm?
An algorithm is a complicated mathematical formula that allows a variety of data (from your website) to be used in order to assign a particular value to something. So for your website, the algorithm is going to take a variety of seemingly unrelated factors and can combine them in just the right way to give your website its search engine ranking. The items mentioned above like keywords, keyword density, your sitemap, ease of use as well as other factors like how many backlinks to your site exist on the internet are all taken into consideration.
What is a search engine “ranking”?
Basically, this is what determines how much money your website is going to make. When a person puts a keyword or phrase into an engine like Google, they get back a page of results. Where your website is in those results is your ranking. For instance, the top result in the search has the number one ranking for that keyword. If your site is not on the first page of results the odds of anyone clicking on your site are dramatically reduced.
Hopefully these definitions have given you some insight into the complicated world of SEO. Sometimes it is best to simply hire an SEO expert, especially in the beginning and then you can kind of learn as you earn. SEO is a complicated game, but the rewards are great for those who break the code and remain persistent.

Advantage of Articles Submission in SEO
Article submission is a great resource for increasing traffic to your website and also getting one way links back to your site. There are a lot of article directories on the web that accept articles for a variety of categories. It is important however, to pick a category that directly relates to the content of your website. This is an effective marketing method referred to as targeting visitors to your web site.
It is also important to understand when submitting your articles, that a massive amount of articles are submitted to popular article sites and directories. For this reason, only some of the articles that are submitted actually generate a significant amount of traffic to their respective websites. The most important question to ask yourself is: what unique information can I provide that will be of the most value to my readers?
Here are some additional important things to consider before you begin your article-submission endeavors in order attract readers to your articles and ultimately get a large amount of traffic to your website:
1) Provide valuable content! Always be asking yourself, would I want to read this? Then take it one step further and ask yourself: after reading this article, would I feel enlightened in such a way that I would be motivated to do something that I would not otherwise have known how to do? By answering this question, you are evaluating what is referred to as your “call to action”. Good writing influences the reader’s behavior.
2) Your article’s content should not be too long, so keep it short. If you have large article content, then try to split them into two or more separate articles.
3) Try to keep your article title short as well, and make sure it is directly related to the contents of the article.
4) Make sure to keep your article title very close to the main keywords of your website as well. As per my experience, keep article titles short and close to the keywords of your website, Google will place far more value to the article’s contents in comparison to your competitor’s websites with the same keywords as you.
For example: If you had a web site related to hemorrhoids diseases and we wanted to write an article for this site, then if we put our article title “Hemorrhoids” or any other relevant keywords, then Google wiil give more value to our articles as well as our website in comparison to other related web sites, whose articles consist of vague, meaningless titles.
5) As most article directories do not accept articles with URLs or hyperlinks in the article contents, be sure to not violate this rule or your article will usually not be considered. They do however usually allow you to include your company name and web address in the “about the author” section that is included with each article submission.
So then what is the advantage of article submission for the SEO work of your website?
1) Great sources of getting one way link.
2) Generate interest in the content of your website so as to attract new, unique visitors.
3) Best alternative to link exchange and link exchange networks.
4) Save time in getting back-links to your website instead of directory submission and link exchanging.
5) Some article submission and PR web sites allow people to subscribe to specific categories related to their web site as RSS feeds. If a website subscribes to the RSS feed for the category that you have submitted your article to, your article and back link will not only show up on the website that you have submitted to, it will also automatically appear on all of the websites that subscribe to the RSS feed of that category. However, only articles that have unique and informative content are chosen to be included in these RSS feeds, so make sure to follow the directions we have provided for you here.
As long as you follow these guidelines, traffic to your website will literally increase in astronomical proportions. A good idea might be to print this article out and tape it to the wall by your computer monitor and read it every time you are about to write and submit a new article.

So What Exactly are the Basics to Search Engine Optimization?
Now, I’m sure that many of you have heard about SEO (search engine optimization / someone who conducts search engine optimization), but how many of you have taken the time to find out exactly what SEO is? The following is a simplistic look at SEO for beginners, hopefully it will help!
When actually conducting SEO, and for our immediate purposes it doesn’t matter if you are a business owner in Arizona and conducting Tucson SEO marketing or Phoenix Internet marketing, what you need to know first, is that there are two main focuses. Most often the first step is to perform onsite optimization – adjustments made to your website that enhances its appeal to search engines, and second, offsite optimization – the process of using third party websites to improve your search rankings.
The basics to onsite optimization is not very complicated and demands fundamental steps. To begin you should go through each of your webpages and create appropriate page titles and descriptions that relates to the content. Then make sure that you have good high-quality content that is unique to your website and offers value to your readers. Finally, structure your pages and content so that you put H1 and H2 tags to good use, and main pages are connected with the use of strong anchor-links in contextual format. If you can tackle these straightforward tasks, you’ll likely already be a step ahead of your competitors.
The best explanation of offsite optimization is that it’s the process of building links on third party websites that link back to your website. Also referred to as a backlink, there are many ways to best conduct a link building campaign. One way to get a backlink is to exchange links with websites that are in a relative industry. You can also obtain links by commenting on various blogs, again you’ll want to blog on websites that offer similar products or services to you, and you’ll want to focus on dofollow blogs. A great approach for accumulating links back to your site is to write articles and submit them to article directories. You might also want to join forums, associated with your line of business, and that allow you to input links in your signature. Finally, you can submit your website to various business directories online.
That’s the basics to learning search optimization. Most small business owners can see great results from taking minor steps to online marketing. Once you get the hang of these basics, it is guaranteed that you will quickly become more effective and efficient at structuring your website and building links. Happy optimizing!

Some Sneaky Secrets To Get Free Website Traffic Now!
by Gill A Taylor
http://www.andrewcouchwm.com
Have you heard of these superb yet economical ways to get free website traffic? When you want to get your website off the ground, try out these four simple strategies that will get free traffic to your newly constructed website. No worries about cost, because their all free, hooray! So let’s cut some financial corners and look at the best four strategies.
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is something that should really become second nature to anyone that has a website or blog and wants to get free website traffic. Google loves you guy, so make it easy to be loved. Give the search engine spiders what they want to see, and you will be seen. SEO can basically be divided into 2 parts:
The first type would be on site SEO. Web crawlers digging through the Internet for relevant search results are called SEO spiders or robots. Use your important keywords in all the right places including page name, all titles and in your content to get free website traffic through search engines. Include alt tags for your images as spiders cannot see your beautiful pictures all that well. A well fed spider can be a great friend to have.
The second side is called off site SEO. It has to do with how other websites link to you using anchor text links. These clickable texts are sometimes uncontrollable as you generally cannot tell another website how to link to you. If possible you want people to link to you using the keywords that complement your site. The authority and content relevancy of the site linking to is also quite important. All this will help to get free website traffic by upping your page rank and improving your search engine rankings.
Social Marketing: This could really get free website traffic in masses. Offer a helping hand, share some free content and resources. If you give people a reason to follow you, they will gladly oblige, and you’ll look like a good guy in the process, not just some slimy marketer.
What I can also strongly advise this: Don’t do what other people do; you want to stand out from the crowd. It’s never too early to start creating and promoting your own brand, so do it from day one. Stay active, this is true for your blog and your profile, consistency is very important, get into a habit of updating your blog and your Facebook or MySpace profile. People like to see development.
Forum marketing: I say there is not a major difference between social marketing and forum marketing. These guys are discussing exactly the stuff that you want to sell them. Just keep in mind not to push your product too much. Make yourself part of the community first. Suggest some ideas or share your thoughts about their subject and display some value with free stuff or news if they come to your site. You should get free website traffic by giving them a link to click on in your digital signature.
Article writing: I really like this one, and it works like a charm. Write high quality content articles and distribute it to the masses by submitting them to multiple article directories. You will get free website traffic from the backlinks in the article or in your resource box. Keep your articles highly targeted and get your audience to go to your site. Remember that your article will stay on the web, so do some keyword research, just like the SEO we discussed, and include it in your title and body text.
Go ahead and start to apply these four steps discussed when launching your website and see the difference in your bank account when you don’t have to pay to get free website traffic! We’ll talk more about certain things and discuss it in detail later. See you soon!

Web Site Content Makes Great SEO
What’s the one true key to SEO success? Web site content is the answer to how well your site will be listing in all the major engines. You can have great keywords in your met tags and have lots of back links pointing to your web site but if the content on your web site is lacking the search terms you hope to list in the engines with, than it’s all been a waste of time.
Go to Google and search for “web design orlando” for example. In the free listings right below the sponsored results, you will see the relevant ads related to your search term. Next to the web site url you will see a link titled cached. Click on it and you will see the pager as it was last crawled by Google. On the page, you will notice that the search term you were looking for is highlighted as many times as it appears in the page.
You must have relevant keyword content in the meta tag “title” and “description” tags as well as in the page. This will give your site the keyword relevance you have been trying to achieve. Go back to the search results page and look at all the titles in the ad listings. They all have the keywords spread through out. Having them in the title, description, and page content will make the content more relevant when being indexed by the search engine spiders.
Try many different key word phrases. You will see the same results over and over again. Search Yahoo and MSN and look at the cached results also. They have similar indexing characteristics. Take notes and see how it is done. You may be surprised how easy it is to get listed in the searches.
